  • Some mums who have studied Hypnobirthing during pregnancy say that they didn’t feel pain during labour and birth, simply power or pressure, therefore they didn’t require any pain relief.

However, Hypnobirthing cannot guarantee the absence of pain during labour and birth as many factors affect this. Research and anecdotal evidence suggest that Hypnobirthing can sometimes result in a pain free birth.

Please remember that the aim of Hypnobirthing is to allow you to birth more easily and more comfortably. So, although a pain free birth is possible this is not the ultimate aim.

  • No, this is a common misconception of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a feeling of deep relaxation. You are aware of what is going on around you but you are able to ignore any distractions. Hypnosis is similar to when you’re engrossed in a TV show or a book. You are deeply focused but you can easily tune back in to other things going on whenever you want or need to.

  • This can be quite common. Perhaps they are suspicious about hypnosis or maybe they think it must be too good to be true.

Hypnobirthing will be successful whether or not either of you are skeptical. Understanding the course material and practicing the techniques is the important part. It is very rare for a person to be skeptical after completing the course. Usually by morning coffee on day one, they can see what a wonderful, rational course it is and how it will positively impact on the birth of their child.

  • The ideal time to begin the course is between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy. This is because the course is usually taught over 2 separate sessions and you will need to practice the breathing techniques and the relaxations in addition to classes. The more time you have to practice the techniques and use the decision-making tools, the better.

However please don’t worry if you are past this point in pregnancy, you will still massively benefit from a course.

  • Don’t worry, although starting earlier is preferable, it is rarely too late! Get in touch, as one to one classes can be organised quickly where there is availability, so that we can fit them before your estimated due date.

Women have had wonderful births using Hypnobirthing days after they have completed the course!

  • Yes, Hypnobirthing is brilliant whether this is your first or your fifth baby. Some women who have birthed previously may have been disappointed by their previous birth experiences. They may feel that the birth of their child was not calm or enjoyable. This can lead to fear for future births. Hypnobirthing helps you eliminate this fear in order to plan for a positive birth this time.

  • Occasionally during pregnancy or labour you may be in a situation where you need to make a choice between a vaginal birth and a C-section. Hypnobirthing teaches you the skills to make an informed decision, so you can decide what is right for you and your child.

If you have a Caesarian birth, Hypnobirthing can prove wonderful in these circumstances, allowing you to relax and feel calm in a situation that could be quite scary. Hypnobirthing classes can also prepare you and your partner for the C-section itself, so that you know what to expect.

  • Hypnobirthing classes provide valuable techniques for both you and your partner. Classes allow both you and your partner to feel prepared and positive about the birth of your child, therefore it is ideal that they attend.

However, if it is not possible for them to attend then please get in touch for a chat. It is likely that we can work around this.

If you don’t have a partner or are planning to birth without a partner or support person that is absolutely fine, women have had great hypnobirths without a partner present.
